What is a video tutorial? We pose this question because there is a growing trend on the internet where websites are starting to use more video content to advertise their products and services to consumers.

This trend is undoubtedly linked to the rapid growth of video sharing sites like YouTube and Metacafe. While both of these sites give users the ability to post videos for free, when it comes to video tutorials the venue is important.

But we have got a bit ahead of ourselves here. In fact, we have yet to explain exactly what a tutorial is. A tutorial is really nothing more than a teaching session that can be given in person or in video form.

For businesses, these tutorials can be posted on either websites or video sharing sites to increase customer interest in a given field. For example, a website that is devoted to home construction may post tutorials on simple projects like kitchen cabinet repair, while still promoting other home improvement products or equipment.

In the end, video tutorials are a great way to reach viewers that are interested in a related product or service in a cheap, accessible and entertaining way. These users may then go on to purchase a product that is required for the completion of said project. After all, we do know that video content is quickly replacing text as the teaching medium of choice on the internet.
